02 ford 24v dohc

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus SEL with the
dual overhead cam and I'm trying to
figure out what the pipe is coming out
of the driver's side front valve cover to
the air box can anyone tell me what it
is?

The why does it leak oil off of the valve cover? Is there a o ring that can go bad?
