Whine from engine bay 02 Dodge Grand Caravan

Asked by GuruW346Q May 31, 2018 at 05:33 PM about the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 02 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8L when I start
the van it has a whine. When I drive it whines unless
it is over 40 mph. I have a high ripple from the
alternator. Over voltage and under voltage engine
codes. But when I pull the positive side of the
battery cable off the van still runs. What could this
be? Power steering or alternator?

Does it do it when the AC is running or just running in general I would check the belts first alot of stuff will whine when it's needs lubed up

When I run the a/c the battery light comes on. But it does it in general. It squeals more when the van has been sitting or it is cold. During the day it runs with barely a whine.
