WET SERPENTNE BELT SLIPS IN RAIN

Asked by GuruB2LJM Jan 17, 2019 at 12:59 PM about the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2005 Dodge grand caravan 3.8 SXT goes through modest water puddle
and the steering freezes up and the battery light comes on.
I have to MUSCLE steer the caravan to a curb. Wait for a minute or so the
battery light goes out and steering is normal.
Is there an upgrade kit for the serpentine belt and tensioner

You are on the right track. You need a new tensioner and pulley assembly. Not sure if anyone sells an upgrade? Changed one out 2 months ago on a 2012 grand caravan same symptoms. Really easy to change out.

NOT the belt, just a bad design. See cheap! Dorman #82570 fix. Threw belt twice then did research. Made the change and no more issues since. Good luck.
