Engine cuts off without throwing check engine light. What could it be?

Asked by tallguy95 Jun 30, 2015 at 12:21 PM about the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo
4.7 L V8. It will start right up and just fine.
But I let it just idle for about 5 minutes the
motor just turns completely without
missing, just like it would if u turned it off
with the key. There's also this crackling
noise when the motor cuts off. And it does
that without throwing the check engine
light. it won't start back up afterwards
either but I let it sit for 10 minutes or so it
fires right up and does the same thing
again. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Have exhaust checked with a ( Exhaust system Back Pressure Kit ) you can get this kit at most part stores. Sounds like the manifold or catalytic converter is partially clogged or clogged that is the crackling noise you hear the metal getting extremely hot because exhaust system can not release the burnt gas.
