my 2003 jeep grand cherokee v8. the oil pressure drops when at idle then goes back up when i excellerate. what would cause the pressure to drop and engine light comes on

You could have a defective gauge, I would think that if the pressure dropped really low the car would stall and or run really hard. You may want to install an external gauge to see if indeed you dash gauge is working ok. It could also be the oil sending unit, don't buy the cheap aftermarket ones ! also do a compression test on the motor.

Every day I see posts from people with Dodge V8 engines that have low oil pressure problems. There must be a service bulletin from Dodge on this issue.
