Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The
heat won't work. The thermostat has been
replaced. Only cold air is coming through
the vents.

Low coolant level, plugged heater core or something is up with the heater valve/linkage

There is a similar problem with a lot of Ford products of that era. There is an electric motor that controls a vent door. The gears in this vent control switch seem to break, leaving the vent door inoperable. Replace the vent door controller and your problem will be resolved. Hint: If you're hearing a clicking sound coming from an area near the center console where it attaches to the dash when you adjust the temperature, it confirms my diagnosis. Good Luck
