Mitsubishi '00 Montero Sport LE 2wd transmission has third gear only. R with a slam. Could there be a blown fuse or something electronic? 216k

check engine lite is on. transmission (auto-matic) has 216k mi. no gear indicator lite, manual shifting does nothing. slams into R. no overdrive. fluid doesn't smell burnt. seams to be up to level. vehical has been dealer-maintained.

physically look underneath to see which electrical connections or vacuum connections have fallen off~

My Triumph spitfire had a lug on there for a J-type overdrive that would fall off, finally took a bread tie, ran it though the hole in the lug and in effect "sewed" the connector into place...sometimes they can be stubborn, is this an oily environment? this may be your problem....ole' softies gettin' even more supple~
It sounds like the transmission needs some service. Take it in and find out what is wrong.

CEL (check engine light) codes can be obained from Kragen or Napa or Oreilleys or any major parts place for FREE- please do this and report back am interested to see what's up with your Mitsubishi~

ps CEL: tcs torque converter selnoid circuit. the other was a trans range select or something like that. thanks again
Turns out there was wire damage between ecm and transmission.Now 217k rolling strong again. thanx jeffreyp
