Question type: Maintenance & Repair
hey guys...
my fuel pump is broken and i have to repair it!
how much will i have to pay for it? - a mechanic gave me a quote of $ 1000,-- for changing the fuel pump and a filter! the cost of the pump is 600 bucks.
Do you think, this price is fair/to high?
How much do i usually pay for a fuel pump?
Thanks in advance!

depends on where you live man, cost of living ranges from area to area, but honestly a fuel pump and a filter is something an everyday person can do depending on the location of the fuel pump, some are located on top of the gas tank or even sometimes inside, so if the pump is 600, and the pump is in the gas tank, lets just say a grand is a good price
Did you bother to call an auto parts store and ask what the cost of a new pump is? I'm amazed at how people will go to a forum asking for advice from people who don't know crap about cars or don't know what their talking about. I called an auto parts store for you. A brand new fuel pump is $204. If you go online you can get a brand new one for $44. Yes I said Forty-four DOLLARS!!! $600 - $44 = $556. SO THAT MEANS YOUR "MECHANIC/RIP-OFF ARTIST" HAS A MARKUP OF $556 FOR YOUR FUEL PUMP. DOES THAT SEEM LIKE A GOOD DEAL? LAST BIT OF ADVICE, DO SOME RESEARCH, CALL A PARTS STORE. I AM ASSUMING YOU HAVE A COMPUTER BECAUSE YOU ARE SURFING THE INTERNET AND ON THIS WEBSITE. THERE'S THIS THING CALLED AMAZON, THERE'S THIS THING CALLED EBAY, THERE'S THESE PLACES CALLED KRAGEN AUTO PARTS, NAPA AUTO PARTS, AUTOZONE. THEY SELL AUTO PARTS. SOME LAME ON THIS WEBSITE IS PROBABLY NOT THE BEST PERSON TO GIVE YOU A QUOTE ON AUTO PARTS OR THE COST TO REPLACE IT.
