How do I fix my car?

Asked by aclay4u Jan 19, 2016 at 03:47 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

'02 Grand Am starts then dies. Just bought it this way. I got used switch and key from salvage yard, and still does the same thing. Suggestions?

I haven't checked that, but the car dies immediately after starting. Some say security issue, some say BCM. I'd like a little firmer suggestion before I go off buying a bunch of parts I don't need. Any experience with this?

Well, if fuel is not getting to the engine it won't start. So, that would be a good place to start. Replacing parts willy nilly is a losing proposition unless you are getting them free. Don't know where the BCM is on that car....sorry.

Check the fuel filter and pump. Most common cause of vehicles not staying on. I would only check the BCM after that.

If it's a security issue, does the security light stay on? You may need to fix that if it doesn't go off on it's own (instruction manual would tell you how to get the light to shut off).
