Car starts and keeps running only when gas pedal is pressed

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2003 Ponitac Grandam. The issue is the car won't stay running after cranking. But on pressing
the gas pedal while starting, the car stays running. The Fuel pump has been replaced a couple of months
back. There is no gas leak and also the I can hear the fuel pump kicking in, no engine light. Please give
me some suggestions/solutions.

I would say your fuel filter try switching that out. It may not be letting enough fuel pass through to keep it running at its normal idal.
Which motor do you have? Could be a number of things. Could be weak spark due to bad coils. Grand ams at known for that but it's usually just misfire. It could need a tune up or map sensor. Even with no engine light, you may be able to pull some information from the computer. Try autozone for free or your local mechanic shop will scan it more thoroughly for a fee.
I would look for a vacuum leak - most likely in the HVAC tubing.
ive hade the same problem on my 2001 suburban will crank and not fire if i step on the pedal it will fire. easy fix fuel pressure regualtor on the fuel rail replace starts like new.
I just fixed my daughter's 2005 Pontiac Bonneville with the same issue. It was a clogged air filter that was causing it took the air filter out started up stayed running perfectly fine.

check the 'idle air control valve' ... just above the throttle body opening ... two or three wire harness going to it ... controls how much air is allowed into intake manifold when car is started to control the idle when your foots NOT on the gas (air) pedal ...
