2002 subaru dead in the road

Asked by Alex Oct 01, 2017 at 01:33 PM about the 2002 Subaru Forester S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was driving home last night and the motor seemed wound
up pretty high but nothing unusual. I was about a mile
from my house and 02 Subaru Forrest had its check
engine light come on then check battery and the rest.
Then the motor died and my power steering and brakes
went out. The only thing still working on the car is all the
electrical. But when I try to start the car it sounds like the
flywheel is spinning freely its a terrible scratchy spinning
noise. Any helpful advise would be much appreciated.

Maybe the timing belt broke. How many miles since it was replaced?

If the check engine light is on have the codes read and post them here.
