revving engine

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have had this issue a couple of times over the past 6 months. When I
come up to a stop sign and push in the clutch and engage the brake my car
would rev up to 3000 rpm and stay there for a couple of minutes then finally
reduce revs to normal. This past weekend I was parking my car. I had the
car in neutral and no foot on the brake, clutch or accelerator. My car revved
up to 3500 to 4000 rpm and I was unable to get the car to drop revvs until I
put it into gear and shut off the vehicle.
My car has a 5 speed manual.
Thanks for your help in figuring out this issue.

My car is having the same issue. It is also a manual. Did you ever figure out he cause?
I have been having this problem for a while With my 05 forester. Have talked to many but nobody seems to know why can't afford a mechanic. It seems to be getting worse and only happens when the weather is cold or when I'm using my heater.
Any update on a fix having the same issues!

I’m having the same issue with mine. I had to shut mine off in traffic today because the RPM’s kept climbing past 4,000 even though my car was in neutral. My mechanic *thinks* that the throttle body is in conflict with the ECM. If he can fix the problem, I will post again.
Has anyone figured this out yet? I have a 2005 XS Forester does the same thing 5- speed manual. He's got to be on coming through the floor any one of the floor settings. I get it stopped if I'm stopped and I hit the brake real hard or if I put it in gear and start going or if I rev it all the way up and then let go it'll drop back down. Either way it's cold outside air and the heater inside has something to do with it what connects them all?
