2004 Subaru Instrument Panel

Asked by RichardPHW Jun 05, 2018 at 05:38 PM about the 2004 Subaru Forester X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

As battery died we heard clicking. Turned off key but not enough juice let to
start vehicle. Jump started next morning. Every thing work normally except we
go zero miles per hour and the engine RPM is zero. What causes these two
instruments to not work and how can they be fixed.

Bat is 2 yrs old. Never had a "weak" moment. Since failure have driven 500 miles. No change on failed instruments.

No no no: this is either an alternator internal voltage regulator failure or bad battery (and/or its connections). Check ground wire near starter too.

Cleaned the battery post and that solved the problem. My question is did disconnecting the battery reset the instruments as the battery posts looked okay?

Corrosion can be pretty much invisible and still stop power.

2004? Not sure if you have an electronic speedo or a cale-driven mechanical one. If the latter, reach up behind the dash and PUSH the speedo cable plug back into the back of its dash instrument panel orifice!
