Why are corvettes quiet until you floor it? Also I found a 96 collectors edition vette for $10 grand. Is that a good price?

The C4s are not collectible- yet- and they are a lot of trouble- 10 thousand is a lotta money- you can get a REAL classic for that- don't get "tunnel vision" on this- if I had $10,000 I can think of a LOT of cars to get- at least put the money down on a new Corvette- you'll be glad you did
The answer to your value question is "it depends" because it really depends on the condition and the options. If it is an LT4 six speed and low mileage, $10K is a real deal. If its a 100K mile LT1 automatic coupe, not so much. As for being a lot of trouble, the 1996s are IMHO the best of the C4s and are no more trouble than any other used car. My 1996 LT4 Collector Edition Convertible is a lot of fun and much more reliable than the 1984 Corvette coupe it replaced.
R_DAVID ... thank you for your post .... 2 years ago I bought my first Corvette (1984) $4,000 .... Buyer beware lesson. I had no knowledge of corvettes, I just wanted one. I did a Carfax on it, to find in its past it had several salvage titles, and about 8-9 owners. The transmission 3rd to 4th slipped when floored ... I put about $500 into it new battery, new alternator, complete tune up, It ran great, but VERY clunky suspension. I just sold it for $3,500 .... So, now someone else can have their first Corvette for cheap .... I am now looking at my next Vette, I think a 96 LT4 CE, makes a lot of sense. It's appears to be the best of the C4's and still an affordable car and will be more reliable ... I think many people learn their lessons on the first Vette (the bright shinny object). I hope to make a wise choice, with out breaking the bank. Your post confirmed to me I am on the right track PaulG
I found my next Corvette ... Test drove it today .... 1996 CE, LT4, Light Grey Interior, F45 package ... 76,000 miles ... $9,000 .... I will sleep on it tonight, and call him in the AM to confirm the sale ... Merry Christmas.
