Subaru head gasket- worth fixing?

Heck ya. Subaru's are awesome. I would if it were mine, well of course I do all my own work so labor is free. I imagine it would be quite expensive but if you like the car then do it.

of course if yours went to "toasty town" and warped the heads might take a little time and machining to put it right, let's assume the valves are okay also~...it's going to be alright~

this engine is an unique design, more of a scientific instrument then a juggernaut~ American designs are like "Just Beef it up with MORE force-- -power!" these are more polite with the H-design bringing the center of gravity down, paying attention to distribution of weight with these~

This might be a good one to learn how's it done, although the level of sophistication with this design, I'd rate at an eight out of ten, kinda fussy and meticulous with torques, design wise have made some mistakes...by now quite sure they've finally figured out how to secure a power steering assembly to the block (a bone of contention in my mechanic experience)...but have full confidence in them (not as much as Toyota), but give my stomp of approval on your new subie project!
Sure, if everything else is working fine on your car. What's the total mileage? It's always less expensive to fix the car than purchase a new one or late model. Really depends on what you want. If you want better mileage, get a newer model. There's nothing you can do to increase your gas mileage on an old car no matter what you do. Plus, you'll get more safely systems. It's all a budget question.
