Oil pan bolts

Asked by Kennith Aug 13, 2019 at 10:24 AM about the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has anyone ever ran into the problem with
with the oil pan bolts braking on a 06 Chevy
trailblazer 4.2l Ls 4x4? I was told that they are
very easy to break an I was wondering if
someone could tell me better way of taking
out without breaking them.

All I know is to be careful. If you break a bolt, don't worry about it till later. Get the job done. Then maybe you can drill out the broken piece and use a thread chaser on the threads. Maybe easier said than done? You could take it to a shop and let them worry about it?

GM has a TSB for the exhaust manifold bolts which are notorious for breaking. Hit the head of the bolts with a hammer first. Could try this method, along with soaking with pb blaster.
