I have a '97 4-Runner 5 spd manual trans with 4 cyl engine. A lot of miles but well maintained/babied! Now, it doesn't want to start on a regular basis, occasionally it will start. I took it to the mechanic, and it started then. He said possibly a switch associated with the clutch or starter. It makes a couple of clicks, then nothing. Have a new battery.

I checked all the visible fuse at engine compartment, all are ok excepted the big fuse which I can not tell if it is still ok!
