Axle Replacement

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I am having a problem getting the new upper tripod bearing to fit into the coupler housing attached to the transmission. Are there two different sizes? My car is a Japan Model (Leading character in VIN is a J), automatic trans and 4cyl. My local auto parts storeis of no help and the repair manual does not mention this.
Any help would be appreciated.

I do not understand .. WHen you purchase a reman axle it has the complete unit including the piece that goes into the transmission. Are you trying to install a partial USED unit ??
It did come complete. To get to the tripod bearing that inserts into the coupler attached at the trans, i had to remove the new coupler. Now the new tripod bearing wont insert. i dont see a way to remove the old coupler, looks welded to axle inside the trans.
What is the difference between the CV-Axles of the manual and automatic transmissions for Toyota Camry 1990, V4?
I recently installed a used A140 Trans into my 90 Camry. The used trans came off of 91 Camry and the coupler and cv axle tripod bearing were bigger on the 91 model. If you want to change the coupler it will come out of the transmission if you wrap a small gauge chain around and behind it and connect that to a large chain and slightly tug on using another vehicle. There is a snap ring inside there that holds the coupler and will give under the pressure. Worked easily for me. Just make sure the car your working on is STABILIZED first.
can we just replace CV boots only for Toyato camry without change axles.
