A sound in the engine when initially started and when trottled down at ideal

Can you describe the sound please? Tick? Screech? Knock?

Ok it has either a 2.2L inline 4 ..or the 3.0L V6. First thing to do is check your oil. If it's very low, 95% chance problem solved. If oil is at proper level, and still 'ticks' the V6 has adjustable valve tappets ...the cam lobe pushes on the valve tappet and they are adjustable on the V6. Could be that...especially if you have high mileage.
