Driving and all power goes out, Why?

The key will turn but there is absolutely no power. It's as if there was no battery hooked up.
V6, not sure about the transmission. Where would I find that info?
Ok....did you notice any warning lights on or flashing when the engine was running? When you step on the brake pedal....and turn the key on...can you move the gear shift lever from park to drive then back to park. Do that and try a restart.
No warning lights when it happed. Everytng just quit all at once. The car coasted to the shoulder and then it was put in park. After that we were not able to move the shifter again. Did what you said. Car will not shift at all. - Thank you.
Suggest you check underhood fuses. There should be a Fuse/Relay box on the driver side. There are several ways to check these fuses. A visual check......an electrical test requiring a 12volt Test Light.......and a Volt Meter. Google ....your make model year and "checking fuses". See what you are most comfortable in trying. There might be fuse boxes in other locations......under the dash.....behind the left kick panel....right kick panel......behind glove box.
