!998 into 2001? Unknown. Consider calling a Auto Junk Yard. Their computer will cross reference and answer that question. The issue you describe might be a Computer controlled electrical solenoid in the transmission. Have you checked the Trans. Fluid? Follow instructions in the Owners Manual. Feel...Smell the fluid on the dip stick. Does it smell burnt?
