Car shuts off when gas cap on correctly

Asked by Jamie Sep 29, 2015 at 11:48 PM about the 1994 Toyota Corolla DX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just got a 94 Corolla and everything runs
great, except when I fill the tank and click
the gas cap shut and drive off, the car won't
start back up again later. However, if I pump
gas and don't click it shut, just basically
tighten slightly but not all the way, the car is
fine. Ideas to what might cause this?

Far be it for me to even chime in on this- Jim knows more than I do. I agree that it is an EVAP issue, but if the purge valve for the charcoal canister has failed, stuck closed, same result.
