why is my check engine light on?

No one can know until you have the trouble codes read. Try your local auto parts store but first check your gas cap to see if it is loose.

Check engine light is because the computer (ECM) detected an abnormal condition in the system. The only way to findout is as mentioned above. Get is scanned and post the codes so we can advise you on what the issue might be.
