Try purging air out of the cooling system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IP54Kbgnv0

ok thank you. not sure what happens but I start the car to let it warm up like I normally do about 10 min or so..drive 3 miles, the temp gauge is way into the Hot and then all of a sudden the temp will drop down to about halfway...still no heat..i feel it open when I turn the cold/hot knob, cleaned the pollen filter, checked coolant..am hoping its not the thermostat cuz its a pain in the but from what I hear, I have to remove the alternator first? wow..ok..if you have any other suggestions it would be great..cant drive at all cuz with this weather I need an ice scraper for the inside,...lol
Sounds like the thermostat. At least they're not expensive.

ty both..so with my limited knowledge I went out to see if I could bleed the radiator..and I noticed as I was squeezing the radiator hose that is was moving a little to freely...it wasn't even connected to the motor!! I know and see where it needs to be reconnected but I am not that strong so I cant remove the old clamp, is a squeeze one and its just not moving at all...so I was thinking of cutting the hose just below the clamp, I checked and it will leave me enough room to cut a piece out and still connect no problem...my question is this... 1. what happens when this happens? I have driven it several times already since I noticed no heat..could I have damaged my engine? 2. are the hoses easy to cut or do I need a special cutting tool..i have heavy duty scissors meant for cutting bone...? will that work? 3. what sort of replacement clamp should I get that wont cause problems later on should I need to access it later... and 4. what should I do once I get it reconnected? replace coolant..try to bleed it (I heard I could just drive it around and it will bleed itself?) but is there anything special I should do? and could this be the no heat issue? thank you for all your help...
Just install a new hose as you probably need one anyway and get the screw type hose clamp from the auto parts store. Driving a car with no coolant is the fastest way to destroy and engine except for driving with no oil.

I live a ways out and I have no other way into town..about 8 miles total both ways..do you think I will make it to get the part? please tell me yes, I tried soapy water to see if there was a way for me to sorta get it back on enough to work a bit...is there any sort of tape that will withstand the heat for a bit?
No you won't make it without coolant. Don't even try unless you are dying to spend $5,000 for a new engine. All I can suggest it to get a good set of pliers to open up the clamp.
Full of regrets is right, get some pliers and open up the clamp and then try to push the hose back on. Make sure you refill the radiator with 50/50 coolant and distilled water.

just an update...I did get the clamp off and reconnected the hose with new clamps, added a bunch of coolant, took it out for a drive, after about an hour of driving it started getting warm, barely. I did this for a couple days, then opened and refilled the coolant etc...it took almost another gallon of antifreeze..so close to 2 total from the time this started..now it heats up after about 10 min...thank you very much for all your help...
The heat in my Toyota takes a while to get warm. What can I do to make the heat get warmer ..?
