2004 impala 3800 start issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car sat for year and became a packrat hotel. Had to replace wiring harness.
Tried to start engine, turned key got dash elites, go to start and dash goes
dark. Can cross terminals on starter and engine will turn but won't start. What
did I miss?

Engine compartment was cleaned out, fuel, oil, all fluids dumped. I replaced the main wiring harness, cleared all faults. When I turn key to on position i can se the dash light up and go thru its routine, all normal. But when i place the key in start position to start the car, the dash blacks out and no start. If I wait 10 secs the dash will relight as if nothing happened. If I leave the key in on position and cross terminals on starter engine will crank but not start
