I have a 1997 Mercedes Benz 280 Cwhile driving down the road the gear shift got moved up in to park..now it will not start it is like the car is not registering that it's in park

First thought is your neutral safety switch might have been damaged.

I'd check the gear selector rod, runs between gear lever and gear box under the car. It's held in place by a small clip at each end and they have been known to come off.
