how u check a trans to see if its good or bad. just installed

we just put in a mercedes e320 1996 and 2 weeks later the trans feels like its slipping
again,is the trans bad or is there something i could have done wrong
when we jack the car up,the tires turn in drive and reverse,shifts fine, but when we let
the car down.it wont kick into gear as if its not reading the trans shifts and the slipping
continues

if you replaced it with a used trany the problem was not solved if it is an overhauled trany they may have partially rebuilt, the best to have a professional check it out.
