Is the dealer the only way to replace a lost key for a mercedes s 500

Do you have a spare or was that the only one?
Yes, also the dealer will need to see the car and verify the vin and your ownership before ordering your new key from Germany. Dont ask how I know. On the up side alot of times you can have someone from the dealer to come to your location to verify the info and ownership.
On a side note if the key does have to be sent from Germany this can take up to a week before the key will be in your hands.
Look on Ebay for your key(I just looked they are on there). You can get new ones uncut a lot cheaper than from the dealer. (Just make sure you get the whole key not just the shell) Then you can go the the dealer or a good locksmith and have it cut and programmed. I do it all the time. Michael is right on the proof of ownership. It's part of the Patriot Act.
there is no key to be cut for this 2000 s500it is a electronic remote key and when it is programmed to an specific car it is done for life it can not be changed or reprogramed for another car. you need to show proof of owner ship such as registration or title in your name and a photo ID to any mercedes dealership and prepay for the key. it does not come with the metal insert that manual unlocks the doors it is an extra 18 to 20 dollars for that . you can expedite your order if you pay for fedex and they get you the key in 3 days.
Ok so it's a Chrysler style. They are still on Ebay. Make sure you get the metal insert key. If the battery in the car ever goes dead you use it to unlock your drivers door. The fob won't remotely unlock the car if the car battery is dead. Then you can pop your hood and jump the battery. They can still be programmed at a MB dealer or a good mechanic with a snap on scan tool.
"They can still be programmed at a good mechanic with a snap on scan tool". You must be dreaming with Snap On Scan Tool to do the works
If a dealer just got a key for you two weeks ago. Do they need the car back in to get another key?
A good locksmith has the scan tools to do it all. Just had 2 keys made and flashed for 97 s500 no problem, no dealer

Hi I have a 2002mercedes 500s. I had a hell of a time getting it towed due to a air shock that is leaking and the suspension system lowered itself. ( the guy I found said it was "work" cause he had to drag it and get underneath it(I helped this guy don't know what work is) anyway I lost the fab key no spare either. Will they make the key without Me retowing it to the dealership?? Please help (lost in Ohio)
