Ford F-250 7.3L broke down, white smoke.

Asked by SamLee73 Feb 07, 2015 at 08:00 PM about the 2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty XLT 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving my 7.3 today and all of
a sudden smelled oil burning. I
looked in my side mirrors and didn't
see smoke and continued on. When I
got through the tunnel I pressed on
the gas to accelerate into the next
lane and had no power. The turbo
spooled and I wasn't going
anywhere. I was able to go about
40mph, paid the toll, and went to
accelerate again and only made it up
to 20mph. A huge cloud of white
smoke came out and my check
engine light came on. I pulled over to
the side of the road and looked at my
dash, the battery light, check engine
light, and check gauges lights were
all on. I tried to accelerate more to
see if I could make it home going
20mph and this time it only went
5mph, and my steering locked up.
Originally, I thought it was the
serpentine belt, but I checked that
and it looks fine. Also, I just had an
injector replaced not too long ago.
What do you guys think could be
wrong, and what's the price of all of
it to get it fixed? Only 84k miles on
her, previous owner didn't handle her
too well went mudding a lot.

Another possibility is a blown head gasket. Check under the oil filler cap and see if you see whitish gunk. If so, heads

it sounds like turbo check it at inlet side remove hose look for oil check the compressor wheel for wear marks between blades and housing, than grab the end of the shaft push in and pull out there should be lil end play than side to side, but not as accurate on one side, you would have to pull exh outlet elbow than with both hands check side to side.but it sounds like its pushing oil back into the engine not a cheap fix

could have dropped a push rod tube especially if you just had a injector changed how long ago and why?
