if you lost compression that would make it die, also the injectors could be clogged( im assuming this is a diesel engine) also your oil cooler could have busted causing you to loose oil pressure and killing the engine to die and not restart. check your fuses replace any bad ones and like Rhodes2345 said check your alternator......

cam or crank sensor also oil pressure sending unit there are a lot of things that can go wrong dose it try to fire? is it a diesel? do the glow plug lights come on?
reinstalled batteries clean the cables and it fired right up
