Blower motor rubbing on something in housing

Asked by Yvonne Sep 06, 2018 at 01:43 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced a blower motor that had gone out. Put the
new one in but when I go higher than the 2nd
setting it starts making noise like it’s rubbing
against something in the housing. It does it on hot
too and when the AC is off. Someone told me it
might be my compressor. I can see signs on the
blower motor fan that it is rubbing against
something but what?....I have looked in the housing
to see if something is broke or loose and can’t see
anything. Need some input.

Would have a look at the mounting points and make sure there are not bushings missing or misaligned. There may be a restriction such as a vent door binding or being dislodged. Sometimes leaves get in there through the fresh air venting and can cause issues. Would pull the motor back out and make sure the cage is properly balanced on the blower motor stem. For now I doubt that the compressor is the issue. Good Luck!
