carburetor engine into '97 f150

Asked by wetsu Aug 03, 2016 at 11:45 AM about the 1997 Ford F-150 XL SB

Question type: General

bad 4.2 engine, read manual, very complicated for a fix, OBD-111, PCM, engine codes. WTF, want used non-smog, 6 or 8 to avoid all the hassle fixing 4.2. want a cheap and dirty swap, just to build a run-hog or semi-ratrod. 66 yr old ex-CJ's and SCJ's owner in '60s/70s needs.... to fill my bucket list.

Get someone to help you fix it. Putting a carbed engine in it may be a nightmare.

Even if you could do all the labor yourself, you'd spend more in parts than the price of a rebuilt or even a remanufactured engine. Being 65 myself, I suggest you spend the cash. Then you can enjoy what remains in the bucket instead of crawling under a a car. Ohe thing for certain. The tranny in my 51 Ford is going to feel about six times heavier than it did when I replaced the clutch 20 years ago. When it goes out again, it will be towed to the shop.
