Chevy cavalier almost stalling when I put it in drive

Pulling out of a parking spot in reverse
the car ran fine. When I put it in drive it
tried to die.

That car has a fuel injection system and fuel starvation should not be an issue like old style carburetors. I suspect it is either the fuel pump is on it's last legs or it could be as simple as changing a fuel filter if it has one. Your best option is to take it to a reputable service garage and they can use a scanner to see if any codes pop up, and if not they have the other tools to figure out the problem.
