while driving home from work noticed all gauges went to zero then got home
started 3 times then it would not start let it set overnight this morning started
right up and gauges working what would the problem be

All the gauges going out usually points to the fuse which controls the dash functions. Your owners manual should indicate which # fuse it is. Since he came back on the fuse could either be loose in the holder or or corrosion is present. YOu could also have a frayed wire somewhere. A wiring diagram would make things a lot easier to trace.
Rsowers: Did your battery run down? You did not indicate that it did in your original post. If you battery did run down and coupled with the gauges going out it could be a problem with the alternator charging the battery. Check your charging system with a multi-meter with the engine running. If you do not know how, it is simple. Just view a youtube video. I suspect there are hundreds showing the process.
