I went to napa and they ordered a locking, non vented gas cap. But the "check gas cap" message came on. The original works fine. I don't know if the original is vented or not. I wanted to get locking one to try to keep ex girlfriend out of there. Guy at napa asked if I wanted vented or not vented when he looked up my vehicle. So it shouldn't have come up with a choice on the computer you would think. If I tried vented, would that damage the vehicle?

It wouldn't damage the vehicle but the check engine light will be on with an EVAP code. The computer will see the vented cap as an EVAP system leak. Hope that helps! Jim
