Engine and Transmission replacement

I inherited a 2006 Ford 150 Lariat. The vehicle has a lot of miles although it is in
great shape. I would like to replace the engine and transmission. Where is the
best place to buy these items and should I stay with the original engine and
transmission that came with the truck or a more modern version of these two
items.

Forget upgrading the engine and transmission. If this is what you want, upgrade the truck.

A transmission and engine replacement with remanufactured parts and labor will run in excess of $10,000.00, that's right 10K. It is not worth it.
