There were 2 recalls for the 2006model year, Tranny isn't one of them: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2006/ford/taurus/recalls/

Good morning RacerX .. yep there were Ford Taurus transmission recalls for the 1996 and '97 only. Same source as Racex X http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2006/ford/taurus/recalls/

Morning David :) Odd...never had a problem with the transmission on my '97 Taurus (which thankfully was a company car...that generation had that weird oval design thing goin' on). I DID have problems with the brakes...even with new pads and rotors in good shape....grinding metal on metal sounds. The 1995 I had was great in comparison ::scratches head:::

"Stripped out"..Torque converter ..the splines in the middle are sheared smooth? Or is TC just gone bad...any leaks? click on this..see the splines on the transmission shaft? They go in to torque converter , which is bolted to flywheel. If those splines are not holding it means a rebuilt transmission, if the splines in TC are smooth, so are the ones on the transmission output shaft

Sounds like $1800 to $2200 worth of transmission work to me. No freebies here. @Racer_X: Ford went through a spell (or rather warehouses full) of brake pads that would transfer material to the rotors and cause them to warp or act as though they were warped. Ford went to great lengths to figure out that they bought crappy pads for several lines of cars and trucks. Almost any aftermarket pad fixed the problem.

Thanks Tracy....At the time ('97) I was REALLY wondering what the issue was. Funny thing is that once this started happening, I took it to a Firestone (tire/repair shop) on the company dime, to fix this (or so I thought)...problem actually got WORSE after I picked it up from them...Go figure!

Check out this guy on YouTube. I don't know much about cars, but he has helped me learn a lot (and learn what to ask about at my mechanic's place) about my 2006 Ford Taurus SE. This guy knows what he's talking about! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx6gTl16SMI This clip talks about how to diagnose transmission problems like this.
