Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 06CRV has a like tire burning odour over the right rear tire after a trip! I have serviced
the brakes and the callipers with grease and everything looks fine. Even the emergency
brakes are served. And the odour is still there. Did anyone have an experience like that?

do u get the smeel when u turn on ur heat or a/c ? if so have ur alternator checked its not always the cause but ive had rubber burning smell coming in my car and it was the alternator geting stuck in high do to bad alternator
Thank you Jonathan! But my problem is at or around the rear right wheel, not anywhere else, and only after the trip, whatever long or short one.
it seems to be a common problem i found another site of about 150 crv owners haveing the same problem heres the link http://www.automotiveforums.com/t175126-burning_rubber_smell.html
for my 2016 I turned off the ECON button and it seems to be behaving better. That's not really the answer I wanted.
Road chemical get stuck between the rear muffler and the attached heat shield above it. Winter chemical such as road-melters get in between. Then your muffler gets hot and burns the chemicals. I have crawled underneath at the car wash and sprayed between the shield and muffler. That helped but I could not get all the dirt out since it is such a close fit between the muffler and heat shield. I am going to try and find replacement for this set-up, maybe no heat shield (?)

Check the rubber hangers supporting the extreme rear of the mufffer. There are two hangers at the rear of the muffler directly above it in a very confined space. I have an aftermarket trailer hitch that bolts in the same area making it even more confined and restricting airflow around the rubber supports for the muffler hanger. I cleaned the rubber off as best as I could and DROWNED THE RUBBER MATERIAL IN CRC HEAVY DUTY SILICONE SPRAY LUBRICANT (very cheap!). That seemed to help. The silicone seems to help the rubber resist the muffler heat better. We will see over time if this benefit lasts more than just a few days. Steve Powers

We are currently experiencing the same issue. Will check it out and post the problem
I’m having the same issue with my 04 crv, seems to only happen in the winter so makes sense that it would be build up of chemicals or the rubber exhaust hangers, at first I thought it was the calliper sticking but I’ve been checking the temp of the rotors are they aren’t abnormally hot
