I have a 91 s10 l4 2.5l base model truck with a manual tranny and recently when i shift into reverse it squeeks when driving and in forward gears it vibrates through all gears it feels like the vibration is in the rear end unless at high speeds then it feels like some vibrations are comming from the front anybody have any ideas what might be causing this and what possibly i could do about this?

Yes, your transmission mounts (made of rubber) are starting to degrade from exposure to UV---maybe your motor mounts as well...

How easy would it be to fix this issue myself im mechanically inclined and i have the repair manual but im no mechanic
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
Does it make a difference that when i put the cluch in or have it in neutral it still does that vibration
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
no, just get a good floor jack and a block of wood, take 'er up. Give yourself enough room to extract the old one....both halves, and slip and bolt the new ones in....no biggie~
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
poke at them with a big prybar or screwdriver to make sure they are the ones givin' you the problems, so as to not waste our resources~
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
there may be bearing problems if things are oscillating that shouldn't be, needs an examination~
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
maybe the bolts that fasten the engine to the transmission are loose~
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
Ill check those bolts too i got a bunch on the checklist for my day off thnx judge_roy

sadly. yes, if high-milage and no one did any routine maintenance you can keep runnin' "until the wheels go square"....ha..
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
Sadly there is alot of miles on it 232 thou and some chage when i got it its now at 272 thou and ive been doing repairs on it since i got it so i would say someone just did the basics when they owned it but i wanna keep it for a long time so im unfortunately doing everything else :(
I had a similar problem and it tuned out to be the universal joints at both ends of the drive shaft maybe check those too while you are under there
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
Thnx jonathan ill check that while im crwling under there today

Could the problem possibly be to do with the vibration?
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
if you're stopped movin' and it's still happening am going with demontoad117 on this one~
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
So checked axle, driveshaft, bushings, mounts, tires, harmonic stablizer, u-joints, bolts, tranny fluid and rear brakes but i still have the vibration and cant figure out what it is... The only thing i can think of is somethin is off with the front end brakes please advise with any advice/input

does it pull? one of your calipers might be sticking as evidenced by uneven wear on one of the rotors~ this would grind and not be happy~
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
There has been a slight pull to the right but thats been going on longer than this issue
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
pull of the wheel and see if the caliper will move side-to-side...these need a special molybednum grease~ the rotors, if vented will show one side of the center vanes larger than the other----replace the rotor and put new pads into the calipers~
If you have vibration in the drive train,(engine and trans) but the vehicle is not moving. Then you need to look at what is moving.Like the fly wheel and clutch plate. If your ear end is squeaking check the gear oil in the differential it could be low or gone. That would result in gear wear and vibrations.
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
The vibration was in forward gears squeeking in reverse but only when the tires not in 0° position but i topped up the tran fluid, checked 15 different things and tightened the engine ground wire took it on the highway and the vibration is gone its just the sqeeking that persists
Is the squeaking when the trans is in gear (1,2,3,or 4) if so jack it up block the front wheels.(with rear wheels off ground) start it up and engage the drive line. That way you can tell if its in the rear end, drive axles drive shaft etc.
demontoad117 answered 11 years ago
No the squeeking is only in reverse and only when the tires are turned if they are straight no squeek
almost surely universal jont or joints
I have a 91 s10 2.8 5spd wont pull i have check everything under the truck but when u put it in gear it just like its in neutral and wont move
