2001 Chevy S10 4x4. While driving in town, will engage in 4lo.. 2 hi just flashes. What could be causing this?

I'm a girl, so please use terms that I can
understand. Its very random when this issue
happens, I know how to get it out of 4lo and
back into 2hi, but I'm afraid that it will
switch into 4lo while I'm driving on the
highway or something. The 4 hi works fine
when I engage it last I checked. Wondering
what could be causing this issue and if I
should not be driving it until it's fixed.

Even easier there is a fuse for the 4wd. It is labeled 4wd, pull it so it can't mess with you.

So that just keeps it into 2hi at all times. Would hooking it up to a computer pick up the issue? Guy above said would only pick up if the issue happens while computer is hooked up. . Is there any other ways to check what the issue is?
