Fuel pump whine, probably on its way to failing.
fuel filter would be the last ditch effort ... if the change does not help, fuel pump.
When the tank is full the liquid gasoline muffles the sound. As the tank gets empty and is more hollow the sound is amplified. Dying fuel pump. Hope that helps! Jim
I own one of these DO NOT RUN LOW ON FUEL, gm recommends the tank have 8 gallon minimum (that's half tank), fuel is the lubricant and coolant for pump. Aging pumps are noisy, especially delphis that have been w the truck for 20 odd years, once whining starts start saving money for a quality pump assembly oem is more but should last the rest of the trucks life, or you can go cheap and do it two or three times costing what a oem spec pump would have cost. 6-12 months once the loud whiring starts.
