Oil pressure gauge

Re: I have recently purchased a 2002,
Chevy S-10, 4 cyl. After running /driving
for a real short time, 5 to 20 min, the oil
pressure guage burries it's self beyond the
80 psi line. The used car sales lot I
purchased from is telling me that there is
nothing wrong. Their mechanic took it for
a spin, I'm guessing from a cold start,
claims it didn't go above 60 psi, again
saying that there is nothing wrong. Casn
you please tell me what the oil pressure
gauge should read to be at normal
pressure? And also can you please tell me
what it means if reading 60 or above? I am
a single, female , sr. citizen and feel that
I'm getting shammed. Look forward to
your response.

, does it stay there ?, if they sold you the vehicles there must be some warranty ? there are lemon laws , if they don't help see another mech. get it warm so they can see what the problem is , the pressure will go up and down a little with the engine rpm's , I would think that vehicle would have at least 30 psi at idle , if it drops the other way to zero shut it off
Like a dummy I paid cash, "as is", do no warranty. Once it reaches 80 psi, it stays there. Never saw it less than 30 psi. What does it mean when over say 50 psi? I've put well less than 1000 miles since I purchased.

for a used car lot to include "as is" on the receipt is unusual I think , probably the sender unit or something simple , hopefully ., My truck with a V-8 will have about 20 psi at idle so like I said if it drops and there's an engine noise turn it off .

1. Check the engine oil level to make sure it is good 2. I would have the computer scanned with a OBD 2, you can do this for free at AutoZone, Advance Auto, Oreille's. Do it even if the check engine light does not come on. 3. If the oil level is good, your problem is probably with the OIL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR. This is a small component which screws somewhere on the vehicle, often underneath, which monitors the oil pressure. If this acts up, it sends whacky data to the display. It is not a fatal fail however. The Truck will still run if without danger of damage, if this component indeed is the cause.

auto zone may even put a new one in for you , I don't think they are expensive .

Hey guys i just had this problem with my s10 2004 and came across this post... guess what...? after reading the above suggestions i went and check my engine oils level and boom... NO OIL! then took the engines top cap to see inside the engine and I couldnt see oil either so it must be the oil level thats giving me that zero oil pressure in my clusters gauge. ill top it up tomorrow and see if that fixes it. I hope it helps others...
Evening guys. I have an 89 Trooper with a GM 2.8 engine (factory)... recently I have noticed that my oil gauge goes as high as 30 when the car is moving... but on idle, sometimes it drops to what would be 15... oil level is good and there is no unusual noise... any thoughts?
Auto zone will not change a oil sending unit lol. Sounds normal for ur trooper. Ruben
