1995 4x4 ram 1500 reverse just stopped working no noise or nothing? goes through forwaed gears fine?

got it stuck pulled it out. drove it home and backed it up 2 times .3rd time nothing . still goes forward just fine. so what happened????

Go drive vehical, allow it to shift into second gear. Then pull shifter down to first/low, and see if it locks in.(eng braking and acceleration) Then accelerate and allow trans to shift into third. press button so overdrive wont come in. Let off gas and see if trans freewheels. If so, odds are its a problem in the overdrive unit. snap ring likes to break. This can be fixed by just removing o/d unit from rear of trans. Will have to be repaired by someone w/experience with these trans. There is a spring in there that has abt 800lbs of press. on it........BE CAREFULL. and you have to aling the splines in overrun clutch, before o/d unit will go back onto trans. Hope this helps

Also, if you went forward-rev-forward-rev a bunch of times quickly, it burns the clutches.

I talked with a trans friend of mine, and he agrees abt. broke snapring.
