2wd V6 96 Dodge Ram, transmission not up shifting.

Asked by lttom May 04, 2015 at 12:56 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 WS LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 1996 2wd V6 Dodge Ram w/126k miles. 2 weeks ago the transmission started
not wanting to up shift unless you let off the gas, allowed it shift, then started
accelerating more. If you give it the slightest bit too much gas though, it down shifts
abruptly. Won't allow me to go over 55mph sometimes due to this, other times I can go
almost 65mph. Nothing higher though. 1-2 shift is fine every time, just every other
higher gear shift does this. Been told it could be some control module or vacuum?
Anybody have a clues or ideas as to what could be wrong? Thanks
