Tranny Troubleshooting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a '99 Ram 1500 HD SLT Laramie 4x4. I have a boatload of miles on her, but take care of my baby. I recently had troubles shifting from 1st to 2nd, but had the governor pressure sensor, F&F changed and the problem went away. A short while later the same problem arose and I've been told that I need a new tranny. She shift through the gears nicely but  quite late in the RPM's. I was thinking the G.P. sensor had gone bad, but I'm getting no codes. Then I thought it may be the sloenoids on the bottom of the tranny. I've taken it to a few shops and they all want to replace the tranny ( some shops are starving for work/money). Is there anything else that I should look at before considering a new tranny? I forgot to mention.....my lovely Ram has over 250K and still runs great! Just looking for some other ideas before doing the ultimate. Thanks!
