the oil gauge bottoms out to no oil...when there is oil showing on dip stix...

When the oil pressure bottoms out does the top end of the engine make any clattering noises? The oil pressure sender, gauge, wiring or low oil pressure may be the problem. I would be a good idea to remove the oil pressure sender and temporarily attach a mechanical pressure gauge to verify the oil pressure is good. How many miles on this Dodge?

we dropped the oil pan and ,put a new bottom filter...it was completely clotted... now since replaced that the oil pressure is back up to top range on gauge....engine is smooth sounding... will continue to monitor....

    oil pressure gauge drops off to nothing than immediatly climbs back to normal. it only does it at operating temp, and when the truck is coming to a stop. oil level is normal to my knowledge.
