So I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9l 6 speed with 180,000 miles. The clutch started squealing so I had it replaced, with the transmission seeming fine. I didn't even make it 50 miles and the transmission got so hot that it melted the gasket on top of the transmission blowing fluid out the top and ruining the tranny. I took it back to the place that I had it fixed at and they said it must have had a bad bearing or it was just time for it to go. Anyway, I got the bill and it was $7600. I was just wanting some advice because the transmission wasn't grinding or whining and seemed to be fine.

That is a huge sum of money for a manual transmission. I can't see any connection between the trans and the clutch replacement though. It does seem suspicious. If the clutch was misaligned maybe it put enough side load on the input shaft that it blew things up?

I have never heard of a manual trans just blowing up with no warning signs from whining or grinding. Maybe some other posters here will have some thoughts to add.

Sounds very pricy for manual Trans. And for it to go out 50 miles after service seems fishy. Especially no warning signs. It's a big bill to just eat, and I would look into wrong doing on their part.

All the evidence is gone now. If they did something wrong they are not admitting it.

Sorry to hear about that. Only thing i can say is talk to manager or if possible owner and explain situation. U never no they might be considerate.
