i believe internetautoguide.com or the consumer reports auto website has a list of recalls for cars, and if they dont, im sure you you google 2000 z24 cavalier recalls something will come up... and i know i have seen on one of those site it has a list of common problems on cars and how much those parts/ repairs cost. but really, its a cavalier, and its going to be 8 years old, so dont expect it to be top notch and neever have some kind of problem (although you may get lucky and it runs great the entire time you own it). here i did a quick search for you... http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1995-to-2005-chevrolet-cavalier-2.htm

Not entirely sure what problem you are speaking about, but the 2.4L uses a timing belt driven water pump, recommends replacement every 60k-80k miles with the timing belt (both $30 parts). Do be realistic though, you are looking at a car 8 yrs old, things are going to break, at least Chevy's are cheap to fix.
