fluid that appears to be oil puddled under the pan that is black between the front doors

Asked by Majesty3 Feb 03, 2016 at 11:13 AM about the 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Cabriolet

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I stored my wifes CLK 320 2001 in a heated garage three months ago as I do
every fall. at some point last week fluid that appears to be engine oil leaked
and created two puddles under the car and ran out from under the car (which
is how I noticed the problem) not sure if it is oil or Trans fluid or PS fluid but it
appears to be dripping from the black pan.  I cannot see any signs of a leak
from looking under the hood.

Most all Mercedes 2000s models experianced cam sensor oil leaks. I know there was a recall at one time for this but may have only included the C class ( call dealer to check recall status ). There are two cam sensors located on the front of the motor the seals tend to slowly leak oil and tends to get oil into the connector for the cam sensor. These 2 sensors sit under the plastic engine cover and can be examined for leaks, if the are leaking there are several write ups on how to change them if they are not cover by Mercedes. If you decide to drive the car to a mechanic then check the oil level before starting the engine.
