When connecting the speedometer to the cable is there a trick to it

When putting in the speedometer there is no room for hands to hold the plug that the speedometer connects to,

On the "88 Camry Speedometer issue; after working with it for a while I found the cable that comes through the fire wall disconnected, in the engine compartment. As for connecting to the speedometer it just clicks in when you slide the instrument cluster into place.
